Funds will replace buses

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that Greater Portland Metro would receive a $2 million State of Good Repair grant from the federal Department of Transportation. 

“This will be a big help as Metro seeks to replace aging buses,” said Pingree.  “With gas prices the way they are, this kind of investment in public transportation is critical.  More and more people these days are looking for opportunities to leave their car at home and Metro helps make that happen.  This federal funding will help Metro buy new buses so it can maintain service without extra costs for local taxpayers.”

The grant is enough to purchase approximately five municipal buses.
