Congresswoman Chellie Pingree spoke on the House floor today, calling on Republican leaders to allow votes on bipartisan legislation to reduce gun violence. In her speech, Pingree said that after the Democratic-organized sit-in two weeks ago, she's heard from many Mainers who have asked if Congress would act.

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree is headed back to Washington today where she plans to join colleagues in pushing for a vote in the US House on common sense bills to reduce gun violence in America.

Once again our country has been struck with an act of senseless violence and murder. We should put aside ideological and political difference and together stand up against acts of gun violence, hate crimes and domestic terrorism.  My thoughts are with the families who have lost someone, the survivors and the police officers and first responders who put their own lives at risk today in Florida.
