Asking Pruitt: ‘What am I going to tell my grandchildren if we don't do something about climate change?’

During a budget hearing of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and the Environment, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree pressed EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on a number of issues, including the effects of climate change on Maine’s economy, the public health risks of weakening of clean air policies, and consequences for the state of a 31 percent proposed cut for EPA.

“Whether it’s fishermen, farmers, or people who live in coastal communities, these are the people I deal with everyday and they’re looking at me with fear and concern,” Pingree told Pruitt about the economic effects in Maine of climate change and sea level rise. “They’re saying to me—and I’m saying to myself—‘What am I going to tell my grandchildren if we don’t do something about it?’”
