VIDEO: In Washington, Pingree Says “We’re Here Because We Have to Protect the Fundamentals of Our Democracy” as Second Impeachment of Pres. Trump Begins

As the second impeachment of President Donald Trump begins in the U.S. House, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today released a video statement on the need to hold President Trump accountable for role in inciting a group of insurrectionists to storm the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021:

“Today we are voting to impeach the President of the United States because only hours before, he conducted a rally and said to his supporters, ‘march on that Capitol, we’re not going to stand for this election, you go right ahead’ and he gave them the marching orders,” said Pingree in her video statement. “We’re here because we have to protect the fundamentals of our democracy. But unless we have a very strong message that this does not stand in the United States of America, this will happen again.”

Pingree’s video statement is available for download here.

Within hours of the deadly domestic terrorist attacks on the U.S. Capitol, Pingree cosponsored two separate House resolutions to impeach President Trump for seditious acts. Pingree has also called for investigation into members of Congress who voted to undermine the results of the 2020 election.
