Pingree Calls Release of Republican Memo ‘Reckless’
Washington, DC,
February 2, 2018
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement after President Trump approved the release of a controversial memo drafted by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee. Pingree read the memo on Tuesday, along with a Democratic counter memo that has been blocked from release. “As the FBI and Senate Republicans have said, the release of this memo is absolutely reckless for our national security. It’s no secret why the White House approved its release—Chairman Nunes and Republican staff drafted this conspiracy theory to try to weaken the investigation on President Trump and Russia. If the release of this memo were truly about transparency, then Chairman Nunes wouldn’t have blocked the release of the memo Democrats wrote in response. Apparently, partisan politics is more important to him than keeping classified information out of the hands of our enemies.” |
