Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement in response to the Washington Post’s report that President Trump gave Russian government officials highly classified information:

"These revelations are shocking, unprecedented, and unpresidential—and have the American public and Congress questioning President Trump’s allegiance to our nation. It's time we knew the full extent of his relationship with the Russian government. And with no one to head the investigation at the FBI and the House Intelligence Committee failing to remain independent, it's time to turn the probe over to an outside commission. Unless we have an independent commission in place, incidents like those reported tonight by the Washington Post will continue to occur without explanation until there are major consequences for our national security."
