Pingree Statement on ‘Irresponsible’ Short-term Continuing Resolution

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) released the following statement on a short-term continuing resolution. She voted against the resolution today.

“No one wants to see a government shutdown, but the Republican proposal is inadequate and irresponsible. We just spent the last week voting on a holiday giveaway to the wealthy when we should have been working out a way to reliably meet the country’s real needs in the year ahead. This short-term CR leaves inadequate resources to address many pressing issues, including the opioid epidemic, a funding shortfall at the Department of Veterans Affairs, and protecting the nation’s environmental health

“We shouldn’t be going home when so many Americans have been waiting on Congress for months to pass the bipartisan DREAM Act and long-term reauthorizations of vital initiatives like the Children’s Health Insurance Program and Community Health Centers. It’s simply unacceptable to kick the can down the road any longer.”
