Pingree Says 'Good Riddance' to Pruitt

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) tweeted “good riddance” today after scandal-ridden EPA Secretary Scott Pruitt resigned. Pingree called for Pruitt’s resignation nearly four months ago following reports that he'd received below market rate housing from a D.C. lobbyist with vested interests before the agency. Pingree elaborated on her tweet with the following statement:

"I am relieved to see Scott Pruitt resign. He was unqualified, corrupt, and determined to undermine the agency that he was tasked with overseeing. Each time he came before the Appropriations Committee, Scott Pruitt evaded questions about climate change, the Paris Accord, his $43,000 soundproof phone booth, and his cozy relationship with the oil and gas lobby. These are just some of the reasons that I called for him to resign four months ago, but the biggest reason is because I believe we owe it to the next generation to have an EPA Administrator who will safeguard the planet they will inherit from us.”
