Mainer Eliot Coleman wins James Beard Award

Coleman to be honored at event in New York City this fall

"There are few people who are more knowledgeable or who have made a greater impact on the growing success of organic farming in America than Eliot Coleman. He not only understands the science and techniques of organic farming better than anyone I know, he's also put that knowledge to work and proved that an organic farm on a small piece of land can thrive and be economically viable. ..."

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement about Eliot Coleman, owner of Four Seasons Farm in the Hancock County town of Harborside.  The James Beard Foundation selected Coleman as the winner of one of its five Leadership Awards. Michelle Obama,Michael Pollan and Mark Bittman are prior winners of the prestigious honor.  Coleman will be honored at a ceremony in New York City on October 19.

Pingree first met Coleman when he was an instructor and she was a student at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor in the 1970s.
