Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) today announced $2 million in EPA Brownfields Grants to assess and clean up polluted sites in Southern and Midcoast Maine communities. 

“The Brownfields program has been vital to helping Maine towns clean up polluted sites so they can be assets to the community rather than a burden.  Its record of success in Maine is why I have been such a stalwart advocate for this program, which has previously faced proposed cuts under the Trump Administration,” said Pingree. “With local budgets so tight, I’m glad these communities can access federal funds to lessen the environmental impact of these sites and find new positive uses for them.”     

Grant Awards

• Camden—Apollo Tannery site: $200,000 Cleanup Grant
• Greater Portland council of Governments, community wide: $300,000 Assessment Grants
• Kennebec Valley Council of Governments—Waterville and Hartland: $200,000 Assessment Grants
• Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission: Community-wide: $200,000 Assessment Grant
• Portland—Community-wide: $200,000 Assessment Grant
• Sanford—Community-wide: $300,000 Assessment Grant
• Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission—York, Oxford and Cumberland Counties: $200,000 Assessment Grant
• Wicasset—former Mason Station Ash Ponds sites—$400,000 Cleanup Grant
