Pingree Statement on NEA, NEH Chair Nominations

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement in response to the announcement that the Biden-Harris Administration will nominate Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson to chair the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and Shelly Lowe to chair the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

“I want to congratulate Dr. Jackson and Ms. Lowe on their nominations to serve as our country’s next NEA Chair and NEH Chair, respectively. I’m proud to support the arts and humanities as co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Arts Caucus and as Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and the Environment, which oversees funding for the NEA and NEH. Dr. Jackson and Ms. Lowe are exactly the type of thoughtful, expert leaders these agencies need. I thank them for their willingness to serve and I look forward to working closely with them.”
