Pingree Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

Maine First District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address to Congress: “Tonight, we heard from a leader guided by compassion, conviction, integrity, and a vision for our shared future. Our national accomplishments these last few years are unmistakable. President Biden has enacted the largest climate change investment ever, drastically cut prescription costs for seniors, reduced unemployment to a 50-year low, delivered student loan relief to millions, signed the most significant gun violence prevention legislation in nearly 30 years, spearheaded a once-in-a-generation infrastructure law, passed the CHIPS and Science Act bringing American jobs and industrial capacity home – and he’s just getting started. This evening President Biden laid out a bold vision to rein in corporate greed, protect reproductive rights, support our allies abroad, and keep the American dream alive for middle class families. I support President Biden’s vision and celebrate his successes. “I was grateful to have Heather Paquette, the President of Good Shepherd Food Bank, join me in the chamber. Food isn’t an optional expense and big food corporations have taken advantage of the American people with shrinkflation. Tonight, we saw David take on Goliath. I appreciate President Biden calling out big food companies for shrinking their portions while raking in big profits.” ### |
