Fire Departments in Portland, Casco, and Gray to Receive Federal Grants

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME) announced today Maine fire departments in Portland, Casco, and Gray will receive federal Assistance to Firefighters Grants totaling $767,410.

“Firefighters who put their lives on the line every day deserve the best equipment possible to keep themselves and the public safe. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program has been crucial to helping Maine communities keep that equipment up to date when costs are out of reach,” Pingree said. “I’m so glad Gray and Casco will be able to make important improvements for the health of their firefighters and that Portland can strengthen its emergency response with a new heavy rescue truck.”

Grant amounts and descriptions provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency:

  • Casco, ME – Federal share of $49,762 for diesel fume exhaust system.
  • Gray, ME – Federal share of $35,829 for wellness & fitness equipment.
  • Portland, ME – Federal share of $681,819 for a heavy rescue truck.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Pingree has been a strong advocate for Assistance to Firefighters Grants and other federal programs that support first responders.
