Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement on the death of former Maine Senate President Beverly Dagget of Augusta, who Pingree served with in the Maine Legislature.
"Bev was a wonderful colleague and I admired her ability to work across the aisle. She was key to developing a bipartisan power sharing arrangement when the Senate was evenly divided. As the first woman President of the Senate she broke down barriers and served as in inspiration to women and girls across the state. And Bev was deeply committed to the community she lived in—in addition to being a State Senator from Augusta, she served on the school board, she was a county commissioner and was always ready to volunteer to help out. She made Maine a better place we will miss her. My thoughts are with her husband Tom and her children during this sad time."
