Standing up for LGBT workers in spending bill vote

Republicans abandon bill after Democrats add protection for LGBT workers

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after House Republicans turned against the Energy and Water spending bill—a bill that funds the Department of Energy, the Army Corps of Engineers and several other agencies:

Last night, I voted for the amendment that preserved the protections the President has created for LGBT workers—I think it's unconscionable that Republicans have put language in these spending bills to strip away those protections.  But I voted against the overall bill today because it is not good for Maine people.  It contained provisions that blocked reporting on climate change and tried to roll back progress on energy efficiency. What's really sad is many Republicans wouldn't vote for this Republican bill after we added protections for LGBT workers to the legislation.

Most Democrats opposed the bill, including Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, the author of the amendment that Pingree voted for last night protecting LGBT workers.
