Pingree says Kittery yard sets example for entire Defense Department
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree joined Vice President Joe Biden,Congressman Mike Michaud, Senator Jean Shaheen and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter to tour the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery this morning.
"We are so proud of the work that the men and women in Kittery are doing," Pingree said. "They have continually modernized and updated the yard and it shows in productivity and world-class quality. My message to the Vice President was simple: the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is a model of quality and efficiency and will continue to be an important part of our nation's defense infrastructure for years to come."
Pingree said she also hopes Vice President Biden's visit couldhelp with an application for a $25 million federal grant to partially fund a replacement for the Sarah Long Bridge.
"That bridge is critical not just to the communities in this area, but also the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard," Pingree said. " I think we need to urge the Vice President to put in a good word for us."
