Today, Representatives Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree praised the U.S. Senate for confirming the nomination of Nancy Torresen to the to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine.

"We're pleased that Nancy Torresen received unanimous support in the Senate," said Michaud and Pingree. "Her diverse legal background will bring a fresh perspective and a breadth of experience and knowledge to the federal bench in Maine."

In March of last year, Michaud and Pingree created a judicial screening panel to assist and advise them as they prepared to make a recommendation to President Obama on the appointment of the next U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maine. The panel was made up of ten respected attorneys representing the diversity of the statewide bar. The screening panel interviewed all applicants and recommended a small group, which included Torresen, as highly qualified for further consideration. Michaud and Pingree reviewed the panel's work and comments before making the decision to forward the names to the President for his consideration.
