Feds agree to keep boat launch at Cobscook Bay open

Reps. Michaud and Pingree asked Obama Administration to make sure boat ramp remains open

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said today that the boat launch ramp at Cobscook Bay State Park will remain open, despite the closure of the surrounding National Wildlife Refuge as a result of the federal government shutdown.

"It just didn't make sense that this boat launch be closed, so Congressman Michaud and I got in touch with the White House to try and work something out. I really appreciate that officials at US Fish and Wildlife agreed that the boat launch could stay open and we resolved this situation. I'm hopeful we get a deal to open the entire government today but in the meantime at least those fishermen in Washington County who use this facility will still have access to the water," Pingree said.

The boat ramp is near Cobscook Bay State Park, but the park and boat launch are on land owned by the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge has been closed during the government shutdown.
