Pingree praises Maine wins in water infrastructure bill

Voted in support of House legislation that contains authorization for Piscataqua River and dedicated funding for small harbors

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree applauded Senate passage of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act, reauthorizing several water infrastructure projects nationwide and in Maine. Pingree voted in support when the House passed the legislation on Thursday. It will now be sent to the President for signature.

"I am very glad that this important legislation will now become law. The authorization of our Portsmouth Harbor and Piscataqua River Project—one of only a select few specified projects in the final bill—will bring better navigation to those who use the river and harbor,” said Pingree.  “And I am very encouraged that the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund now will have a 10 percent set aside for small and emerging harbors.  Maine's small harbors are critical economic drivers for our communities and many are in dire need of federal support for dredging. As they've had such a hard time competing against the nation's large harbors for assistance, I've long advocated for this dedicated source of funding.”
