NYTimes Report Finds Pres. Trump Pressured Comey to Halt Flynn Investigation
Washington, DC,
May 16, 2017
"Every day we learn more disturbing details about how the President has interfered in the investigation of his ties to Russia. ..."
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01) released the following statement in response to tonight’s NYTimes report stating that President Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey to stop the investigation of Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia: "Every day we learn more disturbing details about how the President has interfered in the investigation of his ties to Russia. Tonight’s New York Times report begs more questions and causes Americans to feel less safe and lose faith in the institutions which uphold our Democracy. When Michael Flynn resigned, I joined nearly two hundred of my House colleagues in co-sponsoring a bill to establish an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate President Trump’s Russian ties. Tomorrow morning, I will join these same colleagues for a press conference to highlight the urgent need to pass the Swalwell-Cummings’ Protecting Our Democracy Act. Our nation needs to move beyond headlines and on to answers about President Trump’s vested interest in Russia and the actions he may have taken to cover up the truth." |
