Pingree Statement on Trump Administration Decision to Review Katahdin Woods & Waters Monument

In response to the Department of Interior’s announcement that Maine’s Katahdin Woods & Waters Monument will be reviewed as part of President Trump’s recent national monument Executive Order, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) issued the following statement:

I am incredibly disappointed that the Trump Administration has chosen to review Katahdin Woods & Waters Monument, which is revitalizing northern Maine and has a broad-base of support from more than 200 Maine business owners, dozens of legislators, Chambers of Commerce, and environmental advocates. Just because a few people did not like the outcome of the exhaustive public hearings and information gatherings sessions held by Republican, Democratic, and non-partisan leaders does not mean a thorough review did not happen. I will continue to be a vocal proponent for the protection of this Maine treasure and invite Secretary Zinke to visit the site this summer to talk with Mainers who’ve already seen an uptick in revenue and jobs in their community.
