Funding will be used for a vehicle to recover deicing chemicals
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today that the Portland International Jetport would receive a $405,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to purchase a glycol recovery vehicle. “I’m extremely proud of the Jetport’s efforts to become one of the most sustainable airports in the country. The airport’s process for keeping deicing chemicals out of Casco Bay and purifying them for reuse is a great example,” said Pingree. “I’m glad this federal investment will help the airport streamline these efforts, which will benefit the environment and overall operations.” Earlier this month, Pingree announced another FAA grant for over $900,000 to help the Jetport develop a master plan for its growth over the next 20 years, which will include a focus on sustainable practices like protecting the environment. Recent expansions at the airport have included a new LEED-Gold certified terminal, and a deicing apron for recovering propylene glycol so it can be reprocessed and used again. |
