Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after Congressman Paul Ryan was elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives this morning.

"I want to congratulate Speaker Ryan and wish him the best as he takes on a very important job.  The bipartisan votes on the budget and Export Import Bank this week show that Congress can get things done.  I hope Speaker Ryan follows those examples and lets Democrats and Republicans work together and not cave in to the extreme elements of his party who don't want to pass anything that has Democratic support."
