Pingree statement on President Obama's executive action on gun sales

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said the following about President Obama's decision to issue executive orders to help close the gun show loophole and require anyone selling guns as a business—even if it's online or at gun shows—to conduct background checks

"Americans agree--violent criminals and terrorists shouldn't be able to buy firearms.  And it makes sense to close the loophole that lets them avoid background checks by purchasing their guns online or at gun shows.  Unfortunately, Congress has repeatedly failed to act to close the loophole, so I'm glad the President is taking action."

Pingree has sponsored bills to close the gun show loophole, the terrorist watch list loophole, and a bill that would reinstate the assault weapons ban.
