Statement on President Obama's final budget

Pingree is member of the Appropriations Committee, which holds hearings on budget proposals

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after President Obama released his budget proposal—the last of his presidency.

President Obama's proposal will help grow the pay checks of working Americans by investing in education, infrastructure and the technology we need to compete in the world.  Strengthening Pell grants, expanding childhood education and investing in job training and apprenticeships will lead to better paying jobs for Americans of all ages.  And the President is right to include funding to tackle the problems we face today, like the Zika virus and the growing heroin epidemic.

I hope my Republican colleagues on the Appropriations Committee will allow open, fair hearings on these proposals and not try to play politics with this budget.  Americans want to see us working together to solve the problems we face and not pulling cheap political stunts that lead to another manufactured budget crisis.
