Pingree Announces $5M Grant to Expand COVID-19 Epidemiology, Lab Capacity in Maine
Washington,
April 23, 2020
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced Maine will receive $5,075,000 from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in support of the state’s COVID-19 response. The funding, which was provided through the CARES Act, will go towards epidemiology & lab capacity for COVID-19 diagnosis and testing. “In order for Mainers to get back to work and help our economy recover, we need widespread, accessible testing for everyone across our state,” said Pingree. “With this sizable grant, Maine’s public health system will have increased capacity to process tests at labs and help us understand the true scope of the coronavirus pandemic. Enhancing our testing capacity is the only way out of this crisis.” ###
