Pingree Announces More than $1 Million In Arts Funding for Maine

Pingree pushed for this funding as Chair of the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Chair of the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee and co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Arts Caucus, today announced 11 grants totaling $1,026,000 have been awarded to Maine arts institutions through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). 

“As vaccination rates rise and arts institutions across Maine begin to open their doors for the summer season, I’m proud to see this generous NEA funding distributed to local arts institutions. With the help of these funds, Maine artists and art lovers alike will be able to once again enjoy the sense of community provided by our cultural institutions,” said Pingree. “As Chair of the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee and co-chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus, I worked to secure this support because I know the outsize impact arts funding has in our state. My thanks to the NEA and all of Maine’s art institutions for their support of our creative economy.”

  • Penobscot Indian Nation $50,000 Indian Island, ME 
  • Creative Portland Corporation $25,000 Portland, ME 
  • Mayo Street Arts $10,000 Portland, ME 
  • Palaver Strings Inc. $10,000 Portland, ME 
  • Telling Room $20,000 Portland, ME 
  • Points North Institute (aka Camden International Film Festival (CIFF)) $25,000 Rockport, ME 
  • New England Music Camp Association $25,000 Sidney, ME 
  • President & Trustees of Colby College $10,000 Waterville, ME 
  • Maine Crafts Association $20,000 West Gardiner, ME 

Pingree has served as Chair of the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee since January 2021, where she oversees funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and other cultural agencies. She serves as co-chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus.
