Pingree Backs Contempt of Congress Citation for Trump Chief of StaffHouse seeks criminal prosecution of Mark Meadows for stonewalling January 6 inquiry
Washington,
December 15, 2021
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) last night joined the House of Representatives in voting to hold former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in contempt of Congress for obstructing his role in the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack on the United States Capitol incited by Donald Trump. “When Mr. Meadows was in Congress and we had a Democratic president, he was zealous in his pursuit of oversight of the Executive Branch. But after he had a front row seat in the Trump White House as our democracy was under attack, he refuses to cooperate with the bipartisan January 6 committee as it seeks the truth. This is an open and shut case of contempt of Congress and Mr. Meadows should be prosecuted for obstructing our probe,” said Pingree. “If we fail to hold those who participated or incited this deadly attack fully accountable, we will only invite more lawlessness and the slow destruction of our fragile democracy.”
