Pingree Announces $157,000 Title X Dire Need Grant for Maine Family Planning

Title X, the nation’s only federal family planning program provides health care access to tens of thousands of Mainers

PORTLAND, MAINE – Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced Family Planning Association of Maine, also known as Maine Family Planning, has received a $157,000 Title X Dire Need Grant, a one-time, 15-month opportunity to support underserved areas. This award is one of eight awards totaling $6.6 million announced today by US Health and Human Services to address family planning and health care needs for clients in states impacted by restrictive laws and policies.

“For 7 out of 10 Mainers, Title X providers like Maine Family Planning is their only source of health care. From birth control and cancer screenings to regular check-ups, these basic services were put in jeopardy around the country because of the domestic gag rule implemented by the Trump Administration,” said Pingree. “I applaud the Biden-Harris administration for making this critical aid available to Maine Family Planning, enabling them to provide health care to tens of thousands of Mainers who rely on them—especially as reproductive rights and health care access face continued threats nationwide.”
