Pingree Statement on Latest Supreme Court Mifepristone Ruling

The stay means that mifepristone remains accessible without restriction in all states and territories where abortion is legal, including Maine

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay of the Texas mifepristone decision, retaining broad access to medication abortion:

“Although I am grateful Mifepristone remains safe, effective, legal, and available, our fight for reproductive freedom continues. Congress must restore the full protections established by Roe v. Wade.”

Pingree, a longtime champion of reproductive rights, recently signed an amicus briefto the 5th Circuit court urging this outcome. She has cosponsored and helped pass several bills in the House to protect those freedoms. She is a cosponsor of the Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act, which would codify FDA guidelines allowing access to medication abortion, and the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) to codify the right to an abortion and protect abortion access nationwide.
