Collins, King, Pingree Announce Nearly $15 Million to Upgrade Freeport Wastewater Facility
Washington,
November 17, 2023
Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree announced that the City of Freeport has been awarded a grant of $7.5 million and a loan of $7.488 million through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. This funding will allow for long overdue replacements and upgrades to Freeport’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system. “Proper wastewater infrastructure is critical for the health of all Americans. These upgrades to equipment—some of which is nearly half a century old—are sorely needed to alleviate sanitary concerns,” said Senators Collins and King and Representative Pingree. “This investment will help the city to meet higher water quality and safety standards, support future economic development, and better ensure the well-being of Freeport residents for years to come." USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas. ### |
