Chellie reflects on President Obama's speech at Newtown Memorial Service

"As the President said, no single law will end gun violence, but that is no reason not to try to solve the problem."

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after President Obama's speech tonight at the memorial service in Newtown, Connecticut.

"Tonight the President spoke eloquently and personally to the victims' families, to the community of Newtown and to the nation. The healing from this tragedy will take a long time, and some families have experienced a loss that they will never overcome. But in the meantime, it's the responsibility of Congress and the President to begin an honest and open discussion about common sense reforms to the nation's gun laws. As the President said, no single law will end gun violence, but that is no reason not to try to solve the problem."

Pingree is a co-sponsor of bills that would ban the sale of high capacity magazines and reinstate a ban on military-style assault weapons.
