Marinas in Rockland, South Portland receive $1.8 million federal investment

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today welcomed news that marinas in Rockland and South Portland will receive over $1.8 million in federal Boating Infrastructure Grants to expand docking space and serve more vessels traveling along the Maine coast. Maine will also receive over $400,000 in Clean Vessel Act funds to improve its system of boat wastewater pumpout stations.

“Maine marinas are a critical part of our state’s working waterfront.  In serving vessels that are traveling along the coast, they directly support hundreds of jobs and help connect thousands of customers to local economies,” said Pingree.  “I’m glad marinas in Rockland and South Portland will be able to use these federal investments to grow the number of vessels they can serve. Clean Vessel Act funds will also enable the State to grow and maintain vital pumpout stations that keep waste out of Maine waters.”

Funded through taxes and fees on motorboat fuel and related equipment, the grants are administered by the National Park Service (NPS).
