President Trump Signs Bipartisan Russia Sanctions Bill Signed By President Trump
PORTLAND, MAINE – Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement after President Trump signed the bipartisan Russia sanctions bill recently approved by Congress:
“Last week, Republicans and Democrats in Congress overwhelmingly voted to put sanctions on Russia because of their undeniable interference in the 2016 Presidential election and annexation of Crimea. At a time when his son, son-in-law, and campaign advisors are at the center of an investigation into their ties to Russia, it is especially significant that President Trump has signed this bipartisan bill.
"Russia is not our military, economic, or humanitarian ally. Russia undermined our democracy by meddling in our free elections and violated Ukraine’s sovereignty with their actions in Crimea. America should not work with Vladimir Putin or any other despot who tortures journalists, gay people, or civil dissidents and does not believe in the fundamental importance of democracy. These are not our values and these sanctions are needed immediately.”
