Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement after a shooting incident outside the US Capitol.

"The Capitol Police and the Secret Service reacted swiftly and professionally to contain the situation and we are grateful that they were able to keep the public safe. My thoughts and prayers are with the officer who was injured during the incident."

"Although my staff was not in danger during this incident, being told to lock down inside an office and stay away from windows while a shooting situation unfolds outside is traumatizing. I'm once again grateful for their dedication and professionalism."

Pingree had just voted in the Capitol and was not in the immediate area of the shooting when it occurred.
