Pingree statement on Supreme Court decision regarding abortion clinic buffer zones
Washington, DC,
June 26, 2014
Congresswoman Chellie Pingree released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision today to strike down a law in Massachusetts that required protesters to stay 35 feet from the entrances of reproductive health clinics.
“I’m extremely disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down reasonable steps to protect patient safety at abortion clinics. Protesters have the right to say what they want, but this decision allows them to literally block women’s access to their health care providers. Free speech is one thing—verbalharassment and physical intimidation is another. A woman shouldn’t have to run the gauntlet to see her doctor.” |
