Chair Pingree Applauds Interior Dept’s Establishment of Climate Task Force, Secretary’s Revocation of Trump-Era Fossil Fuel Favoritism

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine), Chair of the House Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, today said two orders issued by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland reaffirm the agency’s commitment to public health, conservation, and science-based policies.

“The last Administration ignored the science and we lost valuable time to address the climate emergency facing our planet. With today’s orders, Secretary Haaland has taken urgent action to refocus the Interior Department on its intended mission: protecting our natural resources and public lands for the next generation. The establishment of a Climate Task Force at Interior is long overdue and will help to support resilience within one of our most vital agencies. I am particularly grateful that the Secretary revoked a dozen harmful orders from the Trump era which put industry interests above public health and the environment. The Biden administration is turning the page on climate denial by striking down fossil fuel favoritism and affirming its commitment to conserving our irreplaceable lands, waters, and wildlife.”
