Chair Pingree Celebrates Passage of Nine FY2022 Appropriations Bills1st District Congresswoman Secured More than $6 Million for Local Maine Projects, Historic 20% Funding Increase for Interior & Environment Programs

WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee Chairwoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today celebrated the passage of nine out of twelve government funding bills for fiscal year 2022.
“After the devastation of the pandemic and decades of disinvestment, the American economy leaves behind working families, small businesses, and our communities. The bills passed by the House this week will create good-paying jobs, address the climate crisis, and provide a lifeline for our country to truly build back better from the pandemic, creating economic opportunity in every district across the country.” said Pingree. “I’m particularly pleased to make progress on bringing home more than $6 million in federal funding for local projects in Maine, targeting community priorities to improve the well-being of my constituents.”
The bills passed this week included funding for the following Appropriations subcommittees: Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies; Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies; Energy, Water Development, and Related Agencies; Financial Services and General Government; Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies; Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies; State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs; and Legislative Branch.

Pingree has served on the House Appropriations Committee for the past seven years and was elected Chair of the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee in January 2021. As Chair, she oversees discretionary spending for the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, US Forest Service, and several agencies related to the arts and humanities.
