WASHINGTON, D.C. – Responding to the record high cases of COVID-19 in Maine today, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement:

“COVID-19 has never been a bigger threat to Mainers than it is right now. In the last month alone, daily hospitalizations across the state have increased 76 percent. Today there are 1,460 new cases in Maine, which is a devastating but avoidable record high. I applaud Governor Mills for activating the National Guard to aid hospital staffs, which are overwhelmed by mostly unvaccinated patients suffering with coronavirus. After nearly two years, we are all ready to put this deadly pandemic behind us but that simply will not happen unless we each protect our health by getting vaccinated, getting a booster, and wearing masks. Let's beat this virus together, Maine.”
