Pingree Announces Community Project Funding Opportunity for Maine’s 1st Congressional District

US House Members can submit a total of 15 community project funding requests to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration in Fiscal Year 2023. The deadline to submit a project request to Pingree’s office is Wednesday, April 13.

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced that her office is accepting requests for Community Project Funding in the Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations process. These funds will direct congressional spending to eligible projects conducted by state and local governments or 501(c)3 nonprofits. Additional information on eligibility and application requirements are available here

“Last year, for the first time in more than a decade, Congress finally took back the power to directly fund the needs of our constituents. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, I secured millions of dollars for ten community funding projects last year, and I will fight to deliver even more direct funding for our communities in the coming year,” said Congresswoman Pingree, a longtime member of the House Appropriations Committee and Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies. “I have no doubt the successes of the FY22 Appropriations bill will continue into 2023 as we begin this process again. I encourage local governments and nonprofit organizations in my district to apply for this unique direct funding opportunity before the April 13 deadline.”

Last year, the House Appropriations Committee reintroduced Community Project Funding after the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress found that congressionally-directed spending boosted bipartisanship, facilitated member-to-member cooperation, and gave members an equal stake in the success of appropriations bills. The House Appropriations Committee has outlined requirements for the new Community Project Funding request process to facilitate transparency, accountability, and ensure strong community support. Each member will be permitted to submit 15 projects for consideration which all must be thoroughly vetted and will be publicly disclosed on Pingree’s website.

Pingree’s office has set a deadline for Community Project Funding requests of 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 13. For a Community Project Funding request to be considered by Pingree’s office, eligible entities must submit a request here. More information about the application and review process are available here.

For the 2022 fiscal year, Pingree secured millions of dollars in funding for ten Maine community projects.
