Pingree Announces $225,000 Grant to Expand Maine Family Planning Access

The Family Planning Association of Maine will receive $224,865 in federal funding through the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services to expand telehealth services throughout Maine

Today, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) announced Family Planning Association of Maine, also known as Maine Family Planning, has received $224,865 from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The federal funding will go towards Maine Family Planning’s Title X telehealth project to expand family planning services for those in need throughout Maine. Title X is the only federal grant program dedicated solely to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services in communities across the U.S.

“On the heels of devastating news that the Supreme Court is poised to overturn 50 years of protected access to safe reproductive health care, I am grateful that the Biden administration is urgently investing in family planning services,” said Congresswoman Pingree. “We’re fortunate to live in a state with laws that explicitly protect reproductive rights, and that this funding will help to patients stay connected to reproductive care. With this grant to expand telehealth services, Mainers—no matter their background or where they live—will be able to easier access the care they need.”

“This grant will allow Maine Family Planning to better meet the needs of young people, people with low household income levels, and people for whom English is a second language. We are grateful to HHS for this opportunity to advance equitable and inclusive telehealth options for all Mainers, and we are excited to get started,” said Evelyn Kieltyka, Maine Family Planning Senior Vice President of Program Services.

In March, Pingree announced a $1,925,000 grant for Maine Family Planning as part of HHS’s Statewide Family Planning Project, which provides medical, educational, and referral services to at-risk, in-need clients throughout Maine.
