Woolwich company Reed and Reed gets $13 million Navy contract for repairs at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Work will help keep Kittery yard competitive

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said this afternoon that Reed and Reed in Woolwich has been awarded a $13 million Navy contract for structural work on berths at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.

"This is great news because it means putting Maine people to work and making sure the facilities in Kittery are maintained and upgraded so they can maintain their reputation for efficiency and high quality work," Pingree said.  "Reed and Reed is a great company with an excellent reputation and I'm glad they will be able to put their skills to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard."

The contract will help stabilize and strengthen repair berths and remove over 1,000 feet of unused railroad track.  The contract includes options which, if exercised, could increase the value of the contract to over $16 million.  The work is expected to be completed by the fall of 2014.
