WASHINGTON, DC–Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced $2,750,000 in Community Project Funding for the Maine Governor’s Energy Office. The funding Pingree secured in the Fiscal Year 2023 Appropriations bill will support the Maine Clean Energy Partnership Workforce Initiative, which develops programming for workforce and training opportunities and provides direct training services to workers and potential workers in the clean energy sector.

“Maine is poised to emerge as a leader of the clean energy sector. Innovative growth and a skilled workforce will help the Governor’s Energy Office tap into Maine’s clean energy potential, advancing our progress on climate and supporting economic development across the state,” said Pingree. “As someone who has been fighting climate change for more than 40 years and is deeply dedicated to forging a clean energy future, I’m thrilled this project I fought for was funded in the government funding bill.”

“We are grateful to Rep. Pingree for supporting the growth of a clean energy and energy efficiency workforce in Maine, which is vital to help reduce our state’s over-reliance on fossil fuels and build our energy independence,” said Dan Burgess, Director of the Governor’s Energy Office. “This funding will expand our workforce efforts by advancing new skills training and educational opportunities to prepare Maine people for good-paying energy jobs for the future, grow our labor force to weatherize our state’s aging housing stock, and generate economic investment in communities across the state.”

Pingree has been a member of the House Appropriations Committee since 2013 and has served as Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies since January 2021.

She proudly supported and helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate investment in U.S. history, as well as the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
