The Alfond Youth and Community Center in Waterville will receive $500,000 to launch a targeted program supporting children and families in need, Maine First District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree announced today. The Community Project Funding is among a total of $34.5 million secured by Pingree in the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill for 15 projects in Maine’s First District. The Alfond Youth Center will use the $500,000 to support a Wellness Wraparound Pilot Program that would offer services including case management, on-site behavioral health services through a partnership with a community hospital, nutritional training, and unlimited access to wellness facilities and classes.

“Community centers like the Alfond Youth Center are a vital part of engaging and supporting children both inside and outside the classroom. Their programs have a tremendous impact on Maine families, and I’m thrilled this funding I secured will help expand their reach to make an even bigger difference in Central Maine,” said Pingree.

“Here at the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA at the Alfond Youth & Community Center we are thrilled that Congresswoman Chellie Pingree endorsed our Wrap Around Wellness initiative project to serve children and families in need in Central Maine. For close to a hundred years, our programs have made an impact on tens of thousands of families and now we can do much more,” said Ken Walsh, Alfond Youth Center CEO Ken Walsh said. “This project will support our licensed child care program youth and their families serving over 500 kids per day in our facilities. With our partnership with area schools, Maine General Health and other non-profits we will be able to do so much more supported by this allocation.”
