Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced $1 million in Community Project Funding for the Central Lincoln County YMCA Child Care Center in Damariscotta to expand services and better meet the demand in the community.

“The coronavirus pandemic highlighted a dramatic and concerning need for child care in our country. As we continue to face economic and workforce challenges in Maine, there remains a significant unmet need for reliable and affordable child care for working parents,” said Pingree. “It’s simply absurd for a parent to have to spend years on a waiting list for child care when they need to work now in order to support their family. The Central Lincoln County YMCA recognized this increasing need in their community and set forth a plan to take on the issue. I was proud to help secure the funding needed to make that plan a reality.”

“The need for child care is a prevalent issue in our community and our local families are often on waiting lists for 1-2 years before being able to enroll their child in a program,” Central Lincoln County YMCA CEO Casey Clark Kelley said. “Our child care expansion project has formed as a result of this increasing community need and we are so grateful for Congresswoman Pingree's advocacy to secure funding for our YMCA."
