To President Obama: don't cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in debt deal
Washington, DC,
July 8, 2011
America can no longer afford ongoing wars that aren't making the country safer Congresswoman Chellie Pingree voted against a massive defense spending bill today that includes $119 billion for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. "The country can no longer afford to spend billions of dollars a week to continue to fight wars that don't make our country any safer," Pingree said. "Our men and women in uniform have served bravely and honorably, but they have paid a high price and it's time to bring them home." A recent report found that on a per capita basis, the casualty rate for Maine military personnel in Afghanistan is the highest of any state in the country. Pingree, a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, was one of only 87 House Members to vote against the Defense Appropriations bill (the final vote was 336-87.) |
