Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, Congressional leaders to tour Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Pingree says she looks forward to "showing off" yard to colleagues

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said she is looking forward to touring the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard this morning with a bipartisan group of lawmakers who want to get a look at the yard's capabilities.

"Portsmouth has a world class reputation for high quality, extremely efficient work. I'm looking forward to showing off what the yard has to offer to my colleagues from the Armed Services Committee," Pingree said.

Pingree will accompany members of the Readiness Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee for a tour of the Portsmouth facilities this morning. The group will include the chair of the Committee, J. Randy Forbes (R-Virginia), the ranking Democrat, Congresswoman Madeline Bordallo (D-Guam), and Congressman Joe Courtney (D-Connecticut.)

"Budgets are tight and it's more important than ever that the Pentagon spends its money carefully and wisely. I want to make sure that Members of Congress who are making these budget decisions can see that it makes sense to continue investing in Portsmouth and can see first hand the high-quality work they do there," Pingree said.
