PORTLAND, ME –Today, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) released the following statement on the recent report detailing malpractice at VA facilities:

“I was deeply concerned to hear from leadership at Togus that our state’s veterans had received substandard care and a formal investigation was underway. This is an inexcusable situation—one that has again raised alarm bells about the quality of care at VA health facilities and eroded trust in the VA’s mission of ‘caring for those who have borne the battle.’ 
 
It is long past time for the VA to uphold their purported mission of delivering quality health care with accountability. 
 
Our veterans deserve the best. Whether in Maine or at VA hospitals across the nation, these failures in oversight and accountability cannot stand and I will work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that this does not happen again.”
