Following Back-to-Back Storm Damage, Maine Delegation Sends Letter to FEMA in Support of Governor Mills’ Request to Streamline Federal Response
Washington,
January 24, 2024
Maine’s Congressional Delegation wrote to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in support of Governor Janet Mills’ request that they treat the devastating January 10th and January 13th storms as a single disaster event for purposes of damage assessment and reporting consistent with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. “The damages are still being assessed, but they appear to be record-setting with catastrophic damage to Maine’s coastline and economy, including private property, public infrastructure, and working waterfronts,” wrote the Maine Delegation.“Treating the two storms as a single event reduces the administrative burden on municipalities up and down the Maine coast, MEMA, and FEMA by allowing assessments to be completed simultaneously, with only one set of paperwork,” the delegation continued. The Maine Delegation also wrote a letter to the President in support of Governor Mills’ request for a major disaster declaration for the December storm damage. Click here to read the letter. |
