Statement on the Loss of Falmouth Navy SEAL

Today, the Department of Defense announced the loss of U.S. Navy Sailor and Falmouth native, Kyle Milliken, who was killed during a Somali National Army-led operation with U.S. Africa Command. In response, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (ME-01) released the following statement:

“Today our hearts are heavy with the loss of U.S. Navy SEAL Kyle Milliken—a local hero who died yesterday in the line of duty. Those who knew Senior Chief Kyle Milliken remember him as an amazing athlete who could do flips on skis and run for miles. He graduated from Cheverus High School as one of their top track stars. After his college graduation, he felt the call to serve and enlisted as a U.S. Navy SEAL. For many years, he operated with the elite Seal Team 6. We will forever be grateful for Senior Chief Milliken’s selfless service to our nation and his commitment to a cause bigger than himself. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Milliken family and those who knew Senior Chief Millken from his early days in Falmouth. May we never forget his extraordinary bravery and incredible sacrifice.”

Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Kyle Milliken, 38, of Falmouth, Maine, was killed during an operation against al-Shabaab on May 5 near Barii, Somalia; approximately 40 miles west of Mogadishu. He was assigned to an East Coast based Special Warfare unit.
